Hopelab Announces Senior Appointments to Drive Teen Mental Health Efforts

Drs. Jaspal Sandhu and Amy Green Join Social Innovation Lab

Two noted leaders in youth mental health and human-centered design, Drs. Amy Green and Jaspal Sandhu, are joining the team at Hopelab. These new appointments are crucial to drive the exciting momentum at Hopelab, a social innovation lab and impact investor supporting the well-being of young people at the intersection of tech and mental health.

Dr. Sandhu teaches interdisciplinary design and entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, where he served as the Fung Fellowship’s faculty lead from 2016-2021. Prior to joining Hopelab, he was co-founder and managing partner at Gobee Group, a global design consultancy. As Hopelab’s executive vice president, Dr. Sandhu will have responsibility over Hopelab Ventures and Studio work in investing, advising and innovating to support the mental and emotional well being of teens and young adults. Dr. Sandhu will join the team full-time on July 11, 2022.

“With our teens and young adults facing so many challenges to their mental health and well-being, it’s all about organizations who are meeting the moment right now,” said Dr. Sandhu. “Hopelab is one of those organizations. Joining this amazing team is my way of engaging young people and helping add to this momentum!”

Dr. Green is a noted clinical psychologist with nearly two decades of experience leading research related to youth mental health and mental health services. She has held appointments at UC San Diego in the Departments of Psychiatry and the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center, and most recently served as the Vice President of Research at The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ young people.

As Hopelab’s Head of Research, Dr. Green will bring scientific and methodological expertise in adolescent and young adult mental health and well-being to Hopelab’s collaborative work. With Hopelab’s nonprofit, academic, and industry partners, Dr. Green will advance measurement, widen impact, and conduct innovative research to promote thriving and health equity for young people. Dr. Green will join the team full-time on May 31, 2022.

“With Jaspal and Amy joining the team, we are at a crucial turning point in our journey to support youth mental health,” said Margaret Laws, president and CEO of Hopelab. “Not only can we more effectively help build and scale digital health products for young people, we can lead on innovative collaborations with emerging companies, organizations, and researchers working to improve youth mental and emotional well-being.”
